RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Two chickens on their way to be slaughtered for their meat have been adopted after they fell out of the truck transporting them and were rescued by Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC). According to posts on RACC's Facebook page on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Monday, Sept. 16, six chickens "most likely" fell out of a truck transporting them to be slaughtered. The chickens were taken to Lucks Lane Veterinary Clinic in Chesterfield County, where veterinarians worked to rehabilitate them. Due to the severity of their injuries, only two of the four chickens survived. On Tuesday, RACC announced that both of the surviving chickens had been adopted. The chickens arrived at RACC just a few weeks after the shelter received five sheep and four goats who were rescued from unsafe conditions in New Kent County.
