MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Kevin Ritz announced his resignation Wednesday as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, two days after he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve on the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ritz, a Memphis native, has served as the U.S. Attorney for the 22-county district since September 2022. He was nominated by President Joe Biden.
In March, President Biden nominated him for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Congressman Steve Cohen, who recommended Ritz to Biden, praised his confirmation Monday.
“I have not known of an individual for judicial appointment that has had more superlatives brought to my attention from both Democrats and Republicans," Cohen wrote on his official website. "His conduct as an attorney before the Sixth Circuit has drawn praise from the judges on that Court, one of whose Republican members told me he would be a ‘perfect fit’ for the circuit."
Ritz received his J.D. from the University of Virginia, his M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and his B.A. with High Distinction from the University of Virginia. He is a graduate of White Station High School.
