SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A suspect was arrested Tuesday after the shooting and stabbing death of a man in the East Village neighborhood, authorities said. Alex Bailey, 53, is suspected of shooting the victim, Lt. Travis Easter with the San Diego Police Department said in a news release. The incident occurred Tuesday around 7:39 p.m. in the area of 14th Street and Imperial Avenue. Officers working near the location heard what sounded like gunshots and responded to the scene where they found a man on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot and stab wounds, according to authorities. The victim, identified by his family as 53-year-old Willie Tillis, was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Family demands justice after man stabbed, shot in East Village "There was some sort of an altercation that led to the suspect shooting the victim, then another suspect stabbing the victim. The suspects fled the scene in different directions," Easter said. On Tuesday around 10:45 a.m., Bailey was arrested without incident during a traffic stop at 2800 National Avenue, per SDPD. He was booked into county jail on suspicion of murder. Authorities are still looking for others in the group that were on the sidewalk at the time of the homicide.
