KENNER, La. (WGNO) — City of Kenner officials are working with government agencies to perform field assessments, helping residents to get the maximum available assistance after over 500 homes were flooded due to Hurricane Francine. According to a release from City of Kenner leaders, officials with GOHSEP, FEMA, SBA and Jefferson Parish are conducting the assessments with Kenner's Emergency Operations as the number of flooded homes in the city has climbed to around 515. The intent of these assessments is to ensure that both Kenner and Jefferson Parish as a whole will meet the threshold for federal assistance and receive as much aid as possible. New Orleans City Council allocates $17M needed for SWBNO West Power Complex Residents can reportedly expect the presence of city, parish, state, and federal officials who will be conducting the field surveys in Kenner neighborhoods that were affected by the storm. The officials have been provided with plenty of information to do their jobs, including detailed city maps, impacted address lists and lists of sewerage backup impact reports. To help with the efforts, residents can complete a survey offered by GOHSEP to report damage to their homes, giving valuable information for officials to better understand the scope and aftermath of Francine. “In the past 48 hours, the number of flooded homes has risen from 264 to well over 500, so with continued evaluation and reporting, I am confident Jefferson Parish will meet the threshold for our residents to access all avenues of individual disaster assistance. We are working tirelessly so that accurate numbers result in Jefferson Parish’s inclusion in the Federal Government's emergency declaration,” said Mayor Mike Glaser. Glaser has reportedly had meetings with members of the state delegation about allocating more money for Kenner's infrastructure. More meetings are ongoing with leaders at the Louis Armstrong International Airport regarding drainage issues.
