AVON, Ind. — Patience is a virtue some drivers in Avon just don't seem to have. According to police, instead of abiding by detours, some impatient Avon drivers took it upon themselves to remove barricades and drive through freshly poured pavement due to being frustrated by a roadway closure. This only led to the closure being extended as the ruined pavement had to be removed and poured for a second time. What was the closure for? A "speed table" that was installed on County Road 625 East near a baseball field. The completed speed table on 625 East in Avon. (Avon Police Dept.) The Avon Police Department said the speed table is essentially a large speed bump meant to slow motorists down due to the close proximity of the baseball field where children and families often gather for games. But not even the safety improvements were enough to deter the impatience of drivers who chose to remove the barricades and drive through the pavement before it properly dried, police said.
