SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- October is just a few weeks away and that means the annual German celebration known as Oktoberfest will make its return in multiple locations across San Diego County. Oktoberfest coincides with the yearly mid-September tradition in Munich, Germany. From vibrant Bavarian decor and live music to biergartens with free-flowing beer and bratwurst-eating competitions, there will be plenty of experiences to transport guests from San Diego to Bavaria. Here are some places to pick pumpkins in San Diego County Whether you live in North or East County, or by the coast, you can visit any of the following Oktoberfest celebrations. East Village Oktoberfest The 8th annual East Village Oktoberfest will showcase the German influence on Mexican culture introduced during the reign of Austrian-born Mexican Emperor Maximiliano I in the 1800s. To highlight both cultures, guests can enjoy craft beer, Bavarian and Mexican bites, various music genres courtesy of live bands and more. The event will take place at Quartyard located at 1301 Market St. on Oct. 5 from noon to 6 p.m. It is open to guests 21 and over. Ticket information can be found here. (Quartyard) Oktoberfest in El Cajon Hosted by the German American Societies of San Diego, the El Cajon Oktoberfest began in 1972 and features plenty of family-friendly activities including folk dances, games and a kids' zone. For adults, various vendors will have a large selection of German beers plus authentic Bavarian food such as bratwurst, ox-on-the-spit, sauerkraut and more. You can attend the El Cajon Oktoberfest at 1017 S. Mollison Ave. between Sept. 27 to 29 and Oct. 4 to 6 between 4 to 10 p.m. on Fridays, noon to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 9 p.m on Sundays. For more information, click here. Julian apple farm closes for the season due to limited crop La Mesa Oktoberfest This free event has drawn visitors since 1973 to the streets of La Mesa Village for entertainment, delicious food and drinks as well as an artisan market with over a hundred vendors. For kids, there will also be a rock-climbing wall, inflatable slides, scavenger hunts and more. Plus, there will be wiener dog races and fashion shows for your furry friends to enjoy. A fee of $5 will give adult guests a pass for all three biergartens. You can attend the La Mesa Oktoberfest on Oct. 4 from 4 to 10 p.m., Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Oct. 6 from noon to 8 p.m. Find more information here. Oktoberfest celebration kicks off in La Mesa the first weekend of October. (KSWB) OB Oktoberfest This 21+ festival features two full days of live music and contests plus a beer garden offering German or local beers, wine and spirits. Award-winning competitive eater, Joey Chesnut, will attempt to set his 56th Guinness World Record title for the most people toasting. There will be a deal for two-for-one beers on Friday, Oct. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 from noon to 2 p.m. Purchase tickets and find the schedule here. Oktoberfest at One Paseo Looking to take part in Bavarian tradition with a Southern California flare? Enjoy beer, bites and games at One Paseo located at 3725 Paseo Pl. in Carmel Valley on Sept. 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include 4-ounce pours and food. Encinitas Oktoberfest and Artisan Faire If you're in North County, the Encinitas Oktoberfest takes place Sept. 29 with new hours this year from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The free, family-friendly event spans a third of a mile along Mountain Vista Drive off El Camino Real between Wandering Road and Rambling Road. There will be a ceremonial parade at noon, plus a special kids' zone to keep the little ones occupied while adults enjoy their brews. Click here for more information.
