Port Allen Police investigating after man found dead in truck

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- An investigation is ongoing after a man was found dead in a truck in Port Allen Wednesday afternoon.
The Port Allen Police Department said officers got a call about a possible gunshot wound or shooting victim in a truck at a tire shop on N. Alexander Avenue before 2 p.m.
A man, identified as Rickey Merritt Sr., was found dead inside a pickup truck. Investigators believe that he may have had a medical emergency.
The police department explained that the call that came in about possible shots fired was possibly from the sound of a truck backfiring.
West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to assist officers. The official cause of death is pending autopsy results, according to the police.
