Low rain chances next several days as we keep an eye on the tropics
Sep 18, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Some slightly drier air is moving into the region and will keep rain chances low Thursday through the weekend.
Temperatures on Thursday will hover between the upper 80s and lower 90s. The weekend is expected to be mostly dry and pleasant as a high-pressure system settles in, bringing much calmer weather after last week's storms.
The National Hurricane Center is watching the western Caribbean where an area of low pressure may form over the weekend. Forecast models show some slow development early next week as the system moves slowly north or northwest over the region.
The NHC gives the system a 30% chance of formation into a tropical depression or tropical storm during the next week.
In addition to the NHC's seven-day tropical weather outlook, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is also forecasting a strong likelihood (over 60%) of tropical development in the western Caribbean from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1.
The next named storm will be Helene, but it's still too soon to predict its path, potential impacts, or strength. While it's something to monitor, there’s no immediate cause for concern.
