NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A juvenile male has been arrested for gun charges following a police foot chase. On September 16th, around 6 p.m., the New Bedford Police Department conducted surveillance around the area of County St. and Austin St., which has had several shootings over the past few months. A young man known to the officers made eye contact and immediately fled the scene, and according to police was seen attempting to dispose of an item hidden in his waistband. The suspect ran west on Studley St., then turned into a driveway and hopped a fence, making his way onto Hazard St. before being taken into custody. Officer Mark Raposo soon came across a handgun that the juvenile had allegedly disposed of beneath a parked vehicle in the driveway of a nearby residence. The weapon was loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and identified by police to be a Taurus G2C handgun. The suspect was arrested and charged on three counts, for carrying a loaded high-capacity firearm without a license, possession of ammunition, and trespassing. Categories: Massachusetts, News
