FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) - Police in Fond du Lac are warning the community of yet another scam circling throughout the Fond du Lac area. According to a release from the Fond du Lac Police Department, multiple citizens have alerted the department of a scammer calling potential victims and claiming to be "Sergeant Johnson with the Fond du Lac Police Department." Police say the scammer then tells the potential victim that they need to have DNA taken and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest before asking for a large sum of money. Brillion Public Schools closed due to online threat Officers report that the scammer sounds convincing as they have details of the Fond du Lac area, knowledge on the process of DNA submissions, and is spoofing the Fond du Lac Police Department's main phone number. The Fond du Lac Police Department states that while they may call community members in regard to some investigations, they would never call to solicit money, gift cards, or any other form of payment. Police ask that the community shares this with family, friends, and neighbors so that they can avoid becoming victims of these types of scams.
