RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – The state has awarded millions of dollars in loans to Ruidoso and Lincoln County as they recover from this summer's wildfires. The South Fork and Salt Fires burned thousands of acres and destroyed 1,400 structures in the mountain community back in June. What kinds of natural disasters happen in New Mexico? Lawmakers met in a special session to set aside relief funds with $70 million in zero-interest loans to repair the infrastructure. That includes $20.5 million for the Cedar Creek area, $15.5 million for Gavilan Canyon, and $44 million for Upper Canyon. The state said those funds will bridge the financial gap before FEMA reimbursement kicks in.
