HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A band of clouds and showers moving over the windward areas of Maui and the Big Island earlier this evening, now reaching windward Oahu. This area of rain will bring more clouds and showers overnight across the state as it shifts from east to west, with some showers likely spilling into leeward areas of the smaller islands. The heavy rain along the Kona coast has stopped, and we can expect drier conditions for the rest of the night. A high-pressure system north of the state is expected to weaken over the next few days, leading to moderate trade winds that will ease by the end of the week into early next week. After tonight, we should return to typical dry season weather, with mostly dry conditions in leeward areas and scattered showers in windward areas, mainly during the night and early morning from Wednesday to Saturday. The increased clouds and showers tonight are part of a moisture field that has been moving through the state, but drier air is on the way.
