CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Where can you get up close and personal with a 5,000-pound life-sized DC-9 airliner tail, and grab your favorite donut in the same place? How about experiencing the Wright Brothers First-in-Flight story en route to your gate?
It's all part of the enhanced passenger experience you'll find in the newly opened and completed Concourse A expansion at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Travelers can expect to be greeted by an impressive array of artistic touches and cutting-edge innovations. Officials say the new 200,000-square-foot expansion, north of the existing concourse, marks a significant milestone for the airport.
Bask in the bright, beautiful, modern, and airy concourse. High ceilings, huge windows that automatically tint to adjust temperature and glare, lots of light --plenty of room for travelers, art and food-loving flyers.
The Concourse A expansion offers passengers an interactive experience as they travel to their gates. There is a Wright Brothers exhibit in the concourse connector. Markers, plaques, and gold medallions represent the distances of the Wright Brother's first powered flights.
More aviation history is featured in a remarkable display. A life-sized McDonnell Douglas MD-82 aircraft tail reimagined by MotoArt is the centerpiece of the concourse.
This expansion increases the airport's total square footage from 1.8 to 2.2 million square feet. The $241 million concourse expansion features 10 new gates -- 7 for Delta, 2 for Frontier, plus a spare for common use.
The concourse features food, shopping, a distillery, a diner, donuts, and more.
Delta Airlines is expected to open its 15,000-square-foot Sky Club by the end of the year.
