MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police say they have arrested one of three people wanted in a violent carjacking outside a Whitehaven gas station nearly four months ago. Dantiruis Freeman, 23, was booked in the Shelby County Jail Tuesday for attempted first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery. He is accused of shooting a man in the stomach and thigh for a 2008 Mercedes Benz. The victim told investigators he was sitting inside his black Mercedes 350C at Lit Jr. in the 1600 block of Winchester when Freeman and two others got out of a burgundy Kia Optima, pointed guns at him, and demanded his vehicle. ORIGINAL STORY: Man shot in stomach during carjacking in Whitehaven: MPD The victim said he got out of his car with his hands in the air, and Freeman shot him before taking off in his Mercedes. On July 5, officers said the victim's black Mercedes was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Florida Street and Mallory Avenue in South Memphis. Witnesses said they saw a man jump out of the Mercedes and wipe down the car doors before fleeing on foot. In early August, MPD released a video of one of the suspects. MPD said the victim was able to identify Freeman as the person who told him to "get out of the vehicle" and shot him.
