WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Over 192,000 people have visited the Big E so far, with Storrowton Day wrapping up the first weekend of the fair this Sunday evening. "It's where our country began and it's important to foster that and just celebrate it," said Ashley Sroka of Ohio. Longmeadow Pride Alliance hosts pride celebration on the town green Fairgoers Sunday were able to explore our region's past with activities, demonstrations, and exhibits all while celebrating Storrowtown Day at the Big E with a glimpse into New England's history! People were enjoying their Sunday stroll through the Storrowton Village Museum. There they took part in an educational experience, touring the village's nine buildings. Not only is there an old meeting house that was built in the 1800s, there's also an old school house you go in to get lessons. "And, while you can learn on the other side of the fairgrounds about the agriculture traditions today on this side of the fairgrounds you can learn about the history behind it," said Director of Storrowton Village Museum, Jessica Fontaine. And another favorite of fairgoers on Storrowton Day, exploring the Clark Blacksmith Shop! "It's my favorite spot since I was a kid. Gets you kind of back to that core of industry and work," said Zach Bruno of Connecticut. "I hope that people realize how important our New England heritage is why we are here and that we are here year round, while we want everyone to come to the fair they should think of us throughout the year too," added Fontaine. And that includes the highly anticipated ghost tours coming up this fall! And you can still support all the fun and educational experiences beyond Storrowton Day, by donating at any of the donation boxes throughout village buildings. All proceeds go back into Storrowton village Museum to help fund future programming. The fair will continue with the Salute to West Springfield Day on Monday.
