INDIANAPOLIS — A man was struck by an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer on Sunday afternoon. According to IMPD, an on-duty officer hit a pedestrian with a marked police car while turning out of a parking lot near the intersection of Michigan Road and Double Tree Boulevard just after 2:30 p.m. Medics responded to the scene of the crash and rendered aid to the pedestrian, who police later identified as an adult male. The man was transported from the area to a local hospital in critical condition. The IMPD officer who struck the man was not injured during the incident. IMPD's internal affairs unit is investigating the incident, as is the department's certified crash team. After a preliminary examination of the crash, police believe the officer, who was turning southbound onto Michigan Road, struck the pedestrian as he was crossing the street from west to east. As is standard procedure for all drivers involved in serious injury crashes, the IMPD officer who struck a pedestrian on Sunday will be subjected to a blood draw. Police do not currently believe drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
