BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- "Chopped" is coming to the 2024 Kern County Fair. No, not the Food Network show. Instead, this cooking challenge will be hosted by Blue Zones Project Bakersfield. The 2024 Kern County Fair kicks off Wednesday This year, amidst all the fried, stuffed and wrapped confections and concoctions, you're going to find some healthier, fare. "We've come up with some recipes we think are winners," Bakersfield City School District Nutrition Services Assistant Director, Bobby Griffin said. Griffin and his daughter Ryleigh will be one of six teams competing in a Blue Zones Project Bakersfield chopped cooking challenge, live at the fair. Jonathan Gallardo School Org. "It's satisfying when you get to create new things, I love to cook it soothes me." "I hope they get new recipes and a passion to try to cook at home," Shafter High School Senior Ryleigh Griffin said. It's something Ryleigh and her dad, Bobby, have been doing since she was little. "Cooking can not only be fun but educational. It comes from place of love and happiness when you get in kitchen, everybody is happy when they have food… I want people to see its not as difficult as they might think… It's fun to get in there and create," Bobby added.
