(WGHP) — Mostly cloudy skies tonight with a very low chance for a stray shower. Temperatures fall into the 60s after 8 PM.  Monday will bring cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60s to start the day. High temperatures will try and reach the upper 60s with rain chances increasing into the afternoon and evening hours.  Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 has formed off the North Carolina coast and has the chance to strengthen into a Tropical Storm by Monday morning. It's forecast to move northwest across North Carolina into Tuesday. This tropical system will bring breezy conditions and rainy weather to the Triad for the start of the work week.  We'll see periods of heavy rainfall and northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph possible. The strongest winds look to arrive late Monday into early Tuesday. It's recommended that any loose items in your yard be secured or brought inside during this event.  If the tropical system is able to move further west, the Triad could see more rainfall from this system. For now, it looks like we could see between 1 to 2 inches of rain with isolated spots picking up over 3 inches.  With the heavy rainfall that could occur, we have the potential to see isolated areas of flash flooding. The main threat for flash flooding looks to also be between late Monday into Tuesday.  We'll be watching the track of the tropical system closely as this could lead to adjustments in the forecast.  A rainy pattern will remain in place even after the tropical system due to an Omega block pattern. This is when two low pressure systems are on opposite coasts (west coast and east coast) while a high pressure system lingers over the central portion of the United States.  The omega block pattern means we'll see periods of rainfall off and on throughout the week however as of right now, we're not expecting a washout. The chance for rain after Tuesday remains around 30% which means isolated to scattered showers will remain possible each day.  Skies will be partly cloudy starting Wednesday with temperatures in the mid 60s in the morning and highs in the upper 70s.  A mix of sun and clouds remains into Thursday with morning temperatures in the mid 60s and highs in the upper 70s.  On Friday, partly cloudy skies remain with morning temperatures in the mid 60s and highs continuing to reach the upper 70s.  Saturday and Sunday morning temperatures will be in the low 60s with highs reaching the mid 70s. Partly cloudy skies remain for the weekend with a 20% chance for rain.
