LAUREL CO., Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Wednesday marks day five in the search for 32-year-old Joseph Couch, the alleged shooter accused of shooting nine cars on I-75 near exit 49 on Saturday. Officials say there have been no new developments today, this announcement coming as law enforcement agencies continue their search through the Daniel Boone National Forest with helicopters, search dogs, drones and more. Local residents say they’ve noticed the community’s ongoing concern since the suspect has still not been caught. “That guy he’s probably gone out of this country or he’s in one of those cabinets down there hiding out,” local resident Ralph Wilson said. “They’ll catch him eventually, I mean he’s caught, it’s just a number of days,” local resident Robert Creech said, Both Wilson and Creech say the Daniel Boone National Forest is a tough place to search, since it’s full of thick brush and a lot of land. “It’s a big change from riding around in a cruiser up here to hitting the woods, and you can stay on the trails, and you can see, but off the trails it’s thick,” Creech said. When people in the area first heard the news, they say worry, fear and uncertainty spread. “I thought that was terrible, I can’t imagine somebody that’d want to get out there and hurt people like that,” Wilson said. “I come in here early in the mornings and there’s not hardly nobody in here right now. I mean when Covid was going on, the parking lot was still full, so a lot of people scared and staying home,” Creech said. As the search continues, they say the hope is that justice will eventually be served. “I think they ought to put him in for life or something like that if they catch him, because hurting people like that he could have killed some of those people,” Wilson said.   Categories: Featured, Local News, News Tags: exit 49, I-75 shooter, joseph couch, Kentucky, KSP, Laurel County, search for suspect, shooting reaction
