After high temperatures returned to the 80s on Wednesday and Thursday, a cold front dropped our temperatures on Friday and now we've really cooled down to start the weekend. It feels like fall outside, thanks to a cool, refreshing airmass in place that originated in Canada. Enjoy the chill in the air this evening if you're a fall weather fan! We'll see decreasing clouds and temperatures quickly falling out of the 60s and into the 50s. Eventually we'll fall all the way down into the lower 40s by daybreak Sunday under mostly clear skies. We will challenge our record low temperature in Fort Wayne, with our low of 41°. We would have to get down to 39° though to tie the record low, which was set back in 1986. Some rural locations outside of Fort Wayne may drop this far though. Either way, grab the coat as you head out the door early in the morning for any plans. Our Sunday morning low temperature in Fort Wayne will challenge our record low temperature. Some spots will drop into the upper 30s early Sunday morning. Brr! Temperatures rebound nicely though on Sunday, as we'll top out in the lower 70s by the afternoon. Expect a partly cloudy day, with a bit of a westerly breeze at times. It will be a nice day to go outside or enjoy the first Sunday of the NFL season! Enjoy a partly cloudy and warmer Sunday.Highs will climb as high as the lower 70s. Summer is taking a vacation this weekend, but will return for the workweek. The area of high pressure responsible for our cooler weekend will shift eastward as the new week goes on, bringing in southwesterly winds. This will allow summertime warmth to build back into the area. The humidity, however, is not going to increase to very high levels. It may be September, be we still have some hot days coming our way this upcoming week. High temperatures return to the 80s on Monday, reach the upper 80s by midweek, then we look to climb into the lower 90s by Thursday. The workweek will also be dry, with plenty of sunny moments. This is not good news for the drought conditions that are in place. In fact, conditions have worsened this week and with plenty more dry days to come, our drought area is likely to continue to expand. Our next update to the drought monitor will be released on Thursday. The area of moderate drought expanded this week.Last week, the driest part of the region was south of Fort Wayne. What may bring us some rain is the remnants of a tropical system. While confidence is very low this far out, there is a chance a tropical system develops in the Gulf of Mexico, makes landfall in Texas, and tracks into our area by next weekend. Stay tuned for updates, as we'll cross our fingers this can bring us a soaking rainfall we could really use. Tonight: Mostly clear and cold.
