SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A Detroit man wanted in connection with a Burlington shootout in 2023 appeared in court Friday.John Austin, 30, pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault charges connected to the shootout on Riverside Avenue in May 2023. The Burlington Police say one of the bullets in the early morning shootout punctured a gas line prompting the evacuation of nearby residents. One of the bullets also went into a home. None was injured.Austin was arrested Thursday afternoon near the Dorset Commons apartment complex in South Burlington.There have been other arrests in the case including his brother, Jwan, and Walter Jones.Austin is being held without bail and will be back in court to face weapon and drug charges.
