INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation is underway after a metro police shot an allegedly armed person on the city's west side. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to report of a person shot at roughly 11:30 a.m. in the 5100 block of W. Vermont Street at a home near the intersection of Vermont and Lynhurst. When police arrived on scene, officers encountered an individual who was allegedly armed with a firearm. IMPD said the individual pointed the firearm at officers prompting officers to fire upon the suspect. After the shooting, police and EMS rendered aid to the suspect who then was transported to an area hospital. IMPD said the suspect is listed as being in critical condition. (Photo by IMPD) At this time, police are not sure if another individual was injured in the original 911 call that led to officers being dispatched to the home. IMPD said there is not believed to be any active threat to the community. Vermont Street between Lynhurst and Cossell Drive will be closed for some time as the investigation continues. No additional information has been released as the investigation remains active and ongoing. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
