LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – There were plenty 4th of July activities today here in Lexington, from the “10k and fun run” Thursday morning to the festival and the parade on Main Street. “This is an awesome experience for everybody to be here all together celebrating,” said attendee Karsyn. The city of Lexington holding several events during the days leading up to the 4th of July, along with several festivities on Thursday. Including a festival and market and the parade. “It’s always a good time,” said attendee Tina Payne. “We love to come downtown, celebrate and have a good time. You know we get to see family and friends while we’re here, so that’s always great.” Hundreds of people came out for the events. Some sharing the experience with their family. “We’re just coming out to have a good time with our family and just be able to spend time with each other,” said Ashley McKee. Her and her husband brought their daughter with them to the parade. “This is her second 4th of July parade and she’s loving all the firetrucks, first responders and all the lights and sirens,” said Austin McKee. But the fun didn’t stop there. The fireworks show began at 10 p.m. downtown. “They are kind of shot up around Manchester, Oliver Lewis Way and Leestown road area,” said Paul Hooper with . “So, you kind of want to get in that general vicinity but there are big fireworks. So if you get somewhat close to there you’ll probably be able to see them really well.” Other cities also celebrated independence day. In Frankfort there was a celebration from five to nine p.m. featuring live music and games, with the fireworks show to afterwards. In Richmond, there was live music, vendors, food truck and inflatables, as well as a fireworks show beginning at 10.
