PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) - A new mural in Plattsburgh raising awareness around suicide is now complete.Local artist Giovanina Bucci spent the last two weeks painting the wall on the back of Warren Tire with the help of other local leaders like Assemblyman Billy Jones and Plattsburgh’s town supervisor Michael Cashman. On it is a depiction of the Adirondack mountains with the words “you matter” as well as the number for the 988 suicide hotline. The mural comes as Clinton County had 13 suicides in 2023, the highest in the last decade.“I think beyond being a mural it is a community resource and that is really what it’s about. I hope it starts a conversation about mental health resources, where to get help, education, and continuing to spread the word about how we can take better care of each other, ourselves, and our community,” said Bucci. You can call the 24-hour 988 hotline if you are struggling with mental health issues.
