Thunderstorms slammed parts of the DMV yesterday as a cold front swept through and drove all of the built-up heat and humidity away from us. Even those who didn't see storms over the weekend are feeling the effects of the cold front today, with a crisp, cooler feel firmly in place. Northerly winds will be breezy at times this afternoon, pushing 10-20 mph and keeping temperatures cool and humidity levels low. Peak readings should only hit the upper 70s to the west and the lower 80s to the east, and it will feel extremely comfortable. Mainly clear skies and calmer winds tonight will lead to low temperatures tumbling into the 50s and lower 60s, very cool by early July standards. As the week progresses along, we'll begin to revert to some classic July heat and humidity. High pressure will be overhead on Tuesday, starting the rise in temperatures with peak readings back into the middle 80s. This will be our last day of keeping humidity in check, so it will feel comfortable despite the warmup. By Wednesday, this high pressure will be east of the area, opening the gates for southerly winds and a rise in humidity. Peak readings on Wednesday will be back around 90 degrees, but it will feel hotter thanks to the rise in dewpoints. Heat and humidity will reach their max for the week just in time for the 4th of July and the following holiday weekend. Temperatures each afternoon will be in the lower to middle 90s, with the heat index climbing up into the triple digits depending on the dewpoint readings each day. At the same time, a frontal boundary and multiple storm systems will pass nearby, bringing daily chances of showers and storms. Independence Day itself shouldn't be a washout, but isolated activity will start to pop up in the afternoon, especially west of DC and I-95. By Friday and Saturday, the activity will become a little more frequent as a warm front and then a cold front works across the area. There aren't any strong signals of severe weather at this point, but given how hot and humid it will be, a few stronger storms each day won't be out of the question. Enjoy this beautiful day, and have a fantastic rest of your Monday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Partly cloudy and breezy at times. Winds: NNE 10-20 mph, High: 81 (77-84) Tonight: Mostly clear skies.
