The Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation, Inc. announced this morning that it has awarded scholarships to three members of the Class of 2024 of Park City High School: James Sykes IV, Boden Parkinson, and Jagger Nuce. Four prior Park City High School graduates are also receiving scholarships: Jesus Suarez (2023), Brenda Villagomez (2021), Tatum Boxley (2022), and Sarah Savitz (2023). These seven exceptional students join 72 other students from 29 states who were selected out of nearly 300 applicants this year alone to receive the Morelli Scholarship. The foundation will host its annual Celebration Event Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. at the Shed at Promontory. The educational event is open to all. Nationally recognized author and guest speaker David Flink will celebrate Joseph’s legacy. According to a press release, The Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2014 in memory of Joseph James Morelli, Park City High School Class of 2012. Its mission is to honor Joseph’s spirit and award scholarships to college students, who, like Joseph, face the challenge of Dyslexia and who are pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded a total of $750,000 to 415 scholarships to students in 41 states, of which 25 have been graduates of Park City High School. “We continue to be proud to recognize students from Park City High School, and are especially appreciative of the support that we receive from so many donors in the Park City area,” said Dr. Barbara Morelli Wirostko, president and founder. “We are also proud that our college freshmen awardees will be offered the opportunity to pair with an upper-class awardee mentor, as this helps ensure success in the transition from high school to college. We have become so much more than just a financial scholarship — we have established a community.
