RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) - Officials in Rutland Town are considering hiring a new police officer to help investigate domestic violence and child sex crime cases.According to town records, it’s a request from the Director of the Child First Advocacy Center. If hired, that officer would work with state and local police departments throughout Rutland County.Rutland Town Police Chief Ed Dumas held a similar position in 2014.“I can still remember what it’s like, and I would 100% support them. The biggest thing is that when they have to go to court, they have to study their cases really well, and know them forward and backward because it’s very important to the victims of these crimes that we do a good job. It’s probably the toughest job I’ve done as an officer, but it’s also very rewarding,” said Dumas.Dumas says the town’s select board is still considering the role. The cost would be covered through a grant from the Child First Advocacy Center.
