New dermatology clinic opens in Heber City
Nov 07, 2026
Après Dermatology and Cosmetic Center cut the ribbon with the Heber Valley Visitor Center on Nov. 5 for its new Heber City office.
The office, located in Suite 120 at 321 West 1300 South, is owned by Dr. Tim Michaelis and his wife, Kaitlyn. The couple also owns a clinic in Park City, which open
ed last month.
Michaelis earned his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine and worked at the Mayo Clinic in Florida. He returned to Utah to work at Intermountain Healthcare for about five years before opening his own practice.
“We really were thoughtful in trying to create a place that not only had expert dermatology care, but also advanced technologies and more of a customized care approach,” Michaelis said.

Après Dermatology offers several services including skin cancer screening, acne treatment, laser treatments and microneedling.
Michaelis was especially excited to offer the VECTRA WB360, which uses 92 cameras to create a 3D scan of the patient’s skin, then mapping, labeling and tracking every mole on their body. Michaelis analyzes the scans in conjunction with AI to identify moles that need further testing or tracking.
The machine is housed in the clinic’s Park City office. Après is one of only a dozen or so entities that have the machine, and it’s the first clinic in Utah to offer it.
“Given that this is a place where everyone loves to spend time outside year-round, skin cancer detection and prevention is of extreme importance,” Michaelis said.
According to a 2023 study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Utah had the second highest rate of melanoma with 46.1 cases per 100,000 people. Utah was just behind Minnesota, which reported 46.8 cases per 100,000 people.

“I think that here in Utah we live in such a beautiful state with so many fun activities year-round,” Michaelis said. “But unfortunately, along with that, we have a really high altitude, and the sun exposure is much stronger at higher altitude, so over the years we’ve (ranked) top one or two in melanoma rates, and so that needs to be a big priority for us to serve the need there.”
As a preventive measure, Michaelis recommended wearing sunscreen and a hat when possible.
“Most of the sun damage that occurs in our lifetime occurs in the first 20 to 30 years, and often there’s a delay in how that makes its mark on our skin,” Michaelis said. “I think doing what you can now, even if you’ve already spent a lot of time in the sun, your future self will thank you.”
Après also uses VISIA 3D imaging, which measures wrinkles, texture, sun damage and other features that can’t be seen with the naked eye.
The clinic is currently taking appointments online at apresderm.com or by calling 435-200-3502.
“Our hope is to be a full-service dermatology clinic,” Michaelis said, “and a place that people can trust for their skin health for years to come.”
