Sherri Shepherd, who once exposed a lowball offer from “The View,” seems to know a bad deal when she hears one. Within minutes, the hosts dangled an offer so tempting that she shouted yes before they could finish the pitch. Sherri Shepherd said yes to a dream offer on live TV, then took it right back. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images) A viral clip from Sherri Shepherd’s Oct. 22 appearance on “Today With Jenna Sheinelle” captured her celebrating a history-making Broadway role, only for the hosts to deliver a detail that quickly brought her back down to earth. Shepherd became the first woman to play the Genie in Disney’s “Aladdin.” This isn’t her first trip to Broadway. She played the wicked Stepmother in “Cinderella” back in 2014. ‘Who Is That?’: Sherri Shepherd’s Unrecognizable Look Has Fans Doing a Double Take, Zooming In on Her New Rack and Snatched Waist Sherri Shepherd Reveals Crazy Thing Her ‘Greedy’ Ex-Husband Demanded During Divorce as She Weighs In on Viral Jurnee Smollett Rumor Speaking with the “Today” hosts, Shepherd opened up to Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones about adjusting to the demanding stage schedule. She also talked about her weight-loss journey, which she says has improved her health, and the joy a new relationship has brought her. The “Think Like a Man” star revealed she has a new man with “his own teeth and credit.” She said the retired military man doesn’t care for Hollywood’s glitz and glam. She even praised how often he cooks for her, adding, “Honey, he feeds me.” It’s a welcome turn for a woman who said goodbye to her daytime talk show “Sherri” in May after four seasons. So when the hosts invited her to stick around for a game inspired by her new role, called “Grant It or Banish It,” she was all in. The rules were simple… every dream offer came with a catch. One offer sounded perfect. “You can have unlimited designer clothes for life,” said Bush as Shepherd lit up and fired back, “Yes!” Then came the twist. “Let me let you live in that for a second,” Shanelle continued. “But your ex gets to pick every outfit.” Shepherd needed clarification before she said another word. “Oh, my ex that I pay the alimony to?” she asked. Once the hosts confirmed, she didn’t hesitate. “Banish it,” she declared, before adding, “He will have me in a potato sack.” And she wasn’t done. When the hosts pushed her to grant at least one wish, Shepherd called them out. “ “Well stop throwing in my ex-husband and Jeffrey,” she said, a nod to her son, Jeffrey Jr., who had been the catch in an earlier wish that let her date any celebrity she wanted, as long as he came along on every date. The jab carries years of history behind it. Shepherd married actor Jeff Tarpley in 2001, and the two welcomed their son, Jeffrey Jr., in 2005 before their marriage ended. In 2011, she wed screenwriter Lamar Sally. They separated in 2014, the same year a son was born to the couple through a surrogate. What followed was a bitter, very public court fight over who would be financially responsible for the child. Shepherd didn’t name the ex she meant during the game, but she made it clear the wound hasn’t fully closed. Over on YouTube, the comment section turned into a full-on Sherri appreciation post. “Looks like Sherri is doing great. I’m so happy for her,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “Sherri looks Fantastic! So happy for her, she has such a beautiful spirit!” Plenty of fans zeroed in on her love life instead. “Sherri’s got a Man!” one person cheered, while another wrote, “Happy That Sherri Is Doing So Well hoping her new relationship is for keeps this time.” Not everyone was ready to throw confetti just yet, though. One longtime fan said they were “very happy for Sherri and all of her success” but wished she would keep her romance private. They recalled how happy she was when she married her second husband, then “the horrible way that it ended.” Shepherd has never been shy about turning that history into punchlines. I n 2023, she told viewers on “Sherri” that marriage might not be for her, admitting she feared losing even more money after paying alimony and child support to both ex-husbands. A court ordered her to pay $4,100 in monthly support for the son she shares with Sally. She has also opened up about how much her exes tried to take on the way out. In a 2025 segment, she recalled one ex-husband fighting for her bedroom set, even though she had bought it before they married. These days, Shepherd seems more interested in what’s in front of her than what’s behind her. She’s starring on Broadway, she’s healthier, and she’s happy in a new relationship. The one thing she’s not handing over is control of her wardrobe. Sherri Shepherd Shuts Down Game After One Mention of Her Ex-Husband Brings Back Memories of Her Costly Divorce ...read more read less
