Trump Calls Fox to Rage After Midterm Massacre, Then Network Host Corners Him with One Fact He Can’t Escape
Nov 04, 2026
President Donald Trump called into Fox News’ live election coverage Tuesday night to criticize the network’s polling after Democrats scored major victories in the midterm elections.
Anchor Bret Baier quickly pushed back, pointing out that the election results closely aligned with the network
’s predictions.
“I read at Fox that I’m not popular. The Fox polls are terrible. You ought to get yourself a good pollster ’cause your polls are the worst,” Trump told Baier during the late-night call.

Baier pushed back, reminding the president that the election results appeared to support the network’s findings.
“Tonight, actually, the results are pretty close to what the Fox polls showed,” Baier responded.

Trump dismissed the observation. “Well, I don’t know about that,” he said, before continuing his complaints about the network.
The exchange also sparked reactions from viewers, some of whom criticized Trump for refusing to acknowledge the election results and continuing to blame the network.
“He lies constantly and is so sheltered by privilege that he can ignore his own voters, lose dismally, and still tell himself it’s their fault. Absolute denial,” one commenter wrote.
“Dude needed this reality check,” another added.
A third commenter joked, “man those polls really got under his skin lol.”
Another viewer criticized what they saw as Trump’s unwillingness to accept the results, writing, “The denial is CRAZY; what is it with him and his self-praise without any award or anything of the sort for him? Ego is what fuels this man, and honestly I hope it runs out.”
The exchange unfolded as Democrats made significant gains, taking control of both the House and Senate after Republicans lost multiple seats. Rather than address the results directly, Trump directed much of his frustration toward Fox News, accusing the network of publishing unfavorable polling and giving too much airtime to Democratic voices.
His complaints were not limited to the phone call. Throughout Election Day, Trump used Truth Social to attack the network, including its polling, coverage, and on-air commentators.
Trump began criticizing Fox News before networks called major races, taking particular issue with Fox’s decision to feature Democratic commentator Jessica Tarlov during its election coverage.
In one post, he complained about her presence on the panel, insulting her and writing, “Watching the Pre-Election Results on Fox News, but I can’t stand Jessica Tarlov’s voice – DUMB AS A ROCK, but it’s the voice that gets me. Have to go somewhere else until that LOSER is off the air – I’ll be back later! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
He also attacked the network’s polling, accusing it of repeatedly producing results that portrayed him unfavorably.
“The Fox News Poll, always the worst, is so insulting with the questions they ask. Every question is a hit job, and every answer is bullsh*t,” Trump wrote. “This has been going on for years.”
Trump also blamed the network for declining ratings, arguing that its coverage of Democrats had alienated some of its longtime viewers.
“Fox News Ratings are way down (27%!) because they’re spending too much time covering the Trump Deranged Dumocrats!” he wrote.
He insisted that his own standing remained strong, citing a CNN poll that he claimed showed overwhelming support among Republicans.
Trump continued to accuse Fox Corp. of financially supporting Democratic politicians and organizations, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Rep. Jamie Raskin and the Congressional Black Caucus PAC. He argued the alleged political contributions showed the network was working against him.
“Fox News bears responsibility for these losses by constantly and consistently putting on the ‘Dumocrat’ opposition, and worse,” Trump later wrote.
Trump’s rant also referenced recent Fox News polling that showed declining approval of his performance across several major issues.
According to the survey, Trump’s overall job approval rating stood at 36%, his lowest in a Fox News poll during either presidential term. His approval rating had held steady at 39% since May before dropping.
The poll also showed particularly weak numbers on economic issues. Only 22% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of inflation, while 77% disapproved. That marked a new low for the president on the issue, down from 36% approval the previous summer.
His numbers were also underwater on the broader economy, with 70% disapproving of his performance, while 69% disapproved of his handling of tariffs. On foreign policy, disapproval reached 64%.
Immigration was another area where more respondents disapproved than approved of Trump’s performance, with 56% expressing disapproval. Border security was the only issue in the survey that showed an even split, with approval and disapproval at 50% each.
The poll found that Trump lost the most support among voters younger than 45, those earning less than $50,000 annually, non-White voters and people without college degrees.
Despite the results, some Fox personalities defended the president during the network’s election coverage.
Former Trump White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, now a Fox commentator, suggested voters had failed to recognize the administration’s accomplishments.
“Unfortunately, I think the American people forgot about the good policy, [and] maybe listened to the lying media on the other side that is definitely in the back seat of the Democratic Party,” she said.
Host Will Cain also defended Trump’s record, saying, as per USA Today, “I look at the pros and the cons of the last two years under Donald Trump, and the pros significantly outweigh the cons.”
As Democratic victories became clearer throughout the night, Trump couldn’t resist weighing in. He took to Truth Social to suggest that the results would have been different if his name had appeared on the ballot.
“I wasn’t on the ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he wrote.
By the end of the night, Democrats had reclaimed control of both chambers of Congress, ending four years in the minority. The results marked a major setback for Republicans and left Trump facing an election-night reality that his attacks on Fox News could not change.
