HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- With Election Day just hours away, Shannon Taylor, the Democratic nominee in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, is making her final pitch to voters.  Taylor, who is challenging incumbent Republican Rep. Rob Wittman (VA-1), touted her record as Henrico County Com monwealth’s Attorney in Henrico on Monday, Nov. 2. “Over the last five years, we’ve brought down the murder rate by 87%,” Taylor said.  Taylor said the cost of groceries, gas, utilities and healthcare are up because Wittman voted on President Donald Trump’s tariffs, the war in Iran and what Taylor calls “healthcare cuts.” “We will repeal those tariffs that are hurting our small businesses and our farmers. We’re gonna cut the taxes for the working families, and we are going to vote to end this war in Iran,” Taylor said.  RELATED: Rob Wittman makes final campaign push ahead of Election Day Taylor said that, if elected, she’ll also work to tackle corruption by banning congressional stock trading, banning what she calls a “Congress-to-lobbying pipeline" and more.  “I want to talk about mandatory jail time for elected officials who are misappropriating taxpayer money. I want to talk about term limits,” Taylor said.  Taylor added Virginia’s 1st Congressional District could be the tipping point when it comes to the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives. “What determines the trajectory of how we are going to be governing ourselves moving forward literally could be determined by what happens here in Virginia’s 1st,” Taylor said.  Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. 8News is Your Local Election Headquarters.
