Simon Guobadia may have thought his biggest headache was his messy divorce from “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams. But Uncle Sam apparently has a few questions of his own, and the stakes could be much higher than losing a multimillion-dollar mansion. The Nigerian businessm an, whose whirlwind romance with Williams ended in a bitter courtroom showdown, is now facing two federal felony tax charges. According to TMZ, Guobadia was indicted Tuesday, Oct. 27, in federal court in Georgia on two counts of assisting in the preparation and filing of false federal tax returns. Prosecutors allege that Guobadia submitted paperwork in March 2021 reporting zero taxable income despite knowing he had earned substantially more. ‘Y’all Knew Simon Wasn’t Gonna Pay’: Simon Guobadia’s Latest Move Throws RHOA’s Porsha Williams for a Loop as New Lien Threatens $7M Divorce Home Sale Porsha Williams Gets Simon Guobadia’s Share of Their $7M Marital Home as He Finally Gives Up the Fight to End Divorce Battle The filing also listed more than $45 million in gross sales for his company, Simcol Petroleum Limited. Federal authorities contend that the business actually generated higher sales. A second filing in July 2021 allegedly reported just $58,231 in taxable income, while the petroleum company listed nearly $31 million in gross sales. Prosecutors claim those figures also understated his actual finances. The indictment does not establish guilt, and the company’s gross sales should not be confused with Guobadia’s personal taxable income. Court records reportedly show that an arrest warrant was issued for the businessman. However, it remains unclear whether he has been taken into custody. News of the charges quickly reached social media, where viewers familiar with his turbulent marriage to Williams had plenty to say. “Porsha’s ancestors love her,” one X user wrote. Another declared, “Porsha always gets the last laugh!!!!” For longtime “RHOA” viewers, Guobadia’s latest legal troubles add another chapter to a relationship that began with controversy. Williams and Guobadia announced their engagement in May 2021, just months after he filed for divorce from his previous wife, Falynn Guobadia. Falynn had appeared on “RHOA,” making the new romance particularly explosive among fans. Williams insisted their relationship began after Simon’s previous marriage had ended. Despite the criticism, the couple exchanged vows during two extravagant ceremonies in November 2022. Their celebrations included a traditional Nigerian wedding and an American church ceremony. The fairy tale lasted just 15 months. Williams filed for divorce in February 2024, shortly after reports surfaced about Guobadia’s immigration history and unsuccessful efforts to obtain American citizenship. Their separation quickly became a battle over money, property and a prenuptial agreement. Guobadia challenged the prenup, arguing that Williams had misrepresented her intentions about returning to reality television. A judge rejected his argument and upheld the agreement. Williams secured $40,000 in monthly spousal support, substantial legal fees and possession of a Rolls-Royce. She also won the right to occupy their approximately $7 million Atlanta mansion. Meanwhile, Guobadia’s immigration problems escalated. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him in February 2025. He spent approximately four months in custody before being deported to Nigeria that June. In a surprising development, Williams revealed that she had paid child support for two of his sons while he was detained after their mother reached out for assistance. The former couple’s financial dispute continued into 2026. In August, a Georgia judge approved a settlement granting Williams full ownership of their former marital mansion. Guobadia relinquished his remaining interest in the property, while Williams became entitled to approximately $1.57 million in home equity. Guobadia subsequently claimed that Williams had inherited millions in debt, although those assertions were not independently established. Now, his federal indictment has reignited speculation about his finances. “He’s a Hall of Fame Scammer. If the Fed gets the conviction, they’ll take everything he had to pay off the debt, then he’ll be penniless and what alimony could he pay, from Nigeria? #RHOA,” one X user wrote, speculating about a possible conviction. “Ain’t this n—ga deported? They know they’ll never see him again. Just wasting time,” another commented. One person questioned whether the allegations might affect Williams’ settlement, writing, “Porsha thought she was gonna get that house…the government about to say not so fast.” There is currently no established connection between the federal indictment and Williams’ ownership of the property, but that doesn’t stop the internet. Another X user remarked, “Nigerians are never beating the scammer allegations i fear.” For Guobadia, the federal charges represent a new legal challenge after years of highly publicized disputes. Whether prosecutors can prove their allegations remains to be seen.
