Rodney Hinton Jr. Hit with Prison Time Days After Murder Conviction for Assaulting Jail Officers
Oct 30, 2026
Rodney Hinton Jr., 40, will spend 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting corrections officers in three separate fifth-degree felony counts.
The Oct. 28 sentence came five days after a jury convicted him of murder on Oct. 23.
On Dec. 13, 2025, while awaiting his jury trial at
the Clermont County Jail in Ohio, Hinton punched a corrections officer twice with a closed fist.

Hinton has remained in the Clermont County Jail since he fatally struck retired Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson with his vehicle on May 2, 2025.
Henderson was directing traffic during a University of Cincinnati commencement when Hinton plowed into him with his vehicle.
Just hours before, the Ohio father had watched police bodycam footage of a different officer gunning down his 18-year-old son, Ryan, during a response to a report of a stolen vehicle in an apartment complex.

According to the prosecutors, the assaults happened after officers escorted Hinton back to his jail cell after disrupting the jail’s shower room.
According to prosecutors, Hinton punched one officer twice before resisting and kicking two additional officers who came to his cell to help restrain him.
After reviewing body-camera footage, Judge Anthony Brock sentenced Hinton to six months on each count and ordered him to serve the terms consecutively.
He said Hinton’s repeated apologies to the officers after they restrained him suggested he knew he had done wrong, but they did not lessen his responsibility.
Brock cited Hinton’s history of violence and the severity of the attacks to justify the prison sentence.
Brock also found that Hinton’s criminal record made him more likely to reoffend, which justified consecutive sentences. He emphasized that the 18-month term is punishment for the jail assaults alone and is separate from Henderson’s death.
“I find that only a prison sentence will adequately punish Mr. Hinton and to protect the public from future crime by him,” Brock said, as reported by local news outlets.
Hinton received credit for the 320 days he had already served in jail.
On Oct. 23, A jury convicted the Ohio father of murder, two counts of felonious assault, and two counts of reckless homicide. He is facing fifteen years to life in prison and will learn his sentence on November 16.
