A 66-year-old Berks County man has been arrested after several young girls reported that he attempted to lure them into his vehicle over multiple occasions that happened at locations throughout the county, officials said.
According to police, Robert Ruhe, 66, of Mohnton, has been arrested and cha
rged with luring a child, stalking and related offenses after multiple incidents of attempts to lure a child into his vehicle were reported to investigators.
Robert Ruhe, 66, of Mohnton, has been arrested after he is alleged to have tried to lure children into his SUV on multiple occasions at different locations in Berks County.
The incidents, which allegedly happened in Shillington Borough and Reading, were all said to have happened on Oct. 14, 2026.
According to court documents, the investigation began after a 15-year-old girl reported to police that, at about 6 p.m., she was walking at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and State Street in Shillington Borough when she was approached by a man — identified by police as Ruhe — who stopped his white SUV in the middle of the roadway and motioned for her to approach him.
The teen ignored Ruhe and walked away.
But, following this encounter, the victim told police she felt uneasy and called her father. She had her father on speaker phone when, a short time later, the girl claimed that she encountered Ruhe again along the 400 block of Wyomissing Avenue.
At that time, the victim told police Ruhe stated “Hey baby, what are you doing?” and told her he had been watching her as she walked alone.
The victim also claimed Ruhe asked her id she wanted to make some money but she again refused his advances until he drove away.
As police investigated this report, investigators said they learned that Ruhe was also alleged to have attempted to lure a teen and her 6-year-old sister into his SUV shortly before the incident in Shillington.
In this incident, that is alleged to have happened between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m., also on Oct. 14, 2026, Ruhe is alleged to have approached a 16-year-old girl and her 6-year-old sister when they were taking trash out on the 1000 block of Patton Avenue in Reading.
In this case, police allege Ruhe repeatedly called out to the underage girls, offering them candy if they got inside his SUV.
The teen girl moved to protect her sister, telling her to stay away, before she shouted for her mother, police said.
At that time, Ruhe is alleged to have sped away.
As investigators worked to learn more on these reported incidents, court documents note, police reviewed surveillance footage from the scenes where Ruhe allegedly approached children and found the same white Acura RDX SUV in both locations.
Upon learning the SUV was owned by Ruhe, officials said, he was interviewed by police and acknowledged operating the SUV in the locations tied to the luring cases at the time these instances occurred.
However, he denied talking to any of the victims, police said.
On Thursday, Ruhe was charged with three counts of luring a child and related offenses.
He was arrested on Friday morning and is awaiting a preliminary arraignment hearing that is currently scheduled for Nov. 11, 2026.
Investigators said they are still working to learn more about this case.
