(Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 28)–There are 20 more commercial burglaries in Lincoln from January through September this year, compared to the same time frame in 2025. Lincoln Police public information manager Erika Thomas says there are 108 cases that have bee n reported so far in 2026, including eight additional storage units and six more hotel/motel break-ins. “The total value of losses increased by 23% compared with the same period last year, while property damage decreased by 27%,” Thomas said. While the year-over-year increase is worth noting, Thomas adds the overall number of burglaries remains below historical levels. Over the past five years, Lincoln averaged 126 commercial burglaries during this same nine-month period. This year’s total of 108 remains below that average by more than 14%. Thomas also on Wednesday offered steps for people to take to help protect their property. “For storage units, use a heavy-duty lock, choose a facility with good security features and document valuable belongings,” Thomas added.  “When staying at a hotel or motel, lock doors and windows, secure valuables and keep belongings out of sight in your vehicle.” The numbers shared on Wednesday by LPD cover commercial burglaries, but do not include burglaries at construction sites. ...read more read less
