If you are a conservative: Vote against Amendment B!
If you are a moderate: Vote against Amendment B!
If you are a progressive: Vote against Amendment B!
If you are a Utahn: Vote against Amendment B!
If you are tired of being bullied and overruled by the Legislature on issues like data
centers (Box Elder), MIDA projects (Mayflower), temporary municipalities (Browns Canyon), threats of incorporation (Dakota Pacific), and local building codes (the Francis hotel’s 4th story) Vote against Amendment B.
Citizens initiatives ensure that the people have a direct say in the laws they believe should be adopted.
For 125 years, our state Constitution has provided two procedures to make laws by a simple majority (50%): 1) by the Legislature and 2) by citizens’ initiatives. The Legislature has been jealously chipping away at Utahns’ equal right to make laws by citizen-led initiatives, making it more burdensome and more strenuous.
The Legislature proposes amending the Constitution by raising the citizens’ initiative passing threshold to 60% for laws that would raise taxes (most laws) while retaining the its passing threshold for the same piece of legislation at 50%.
The effect of this amendment would be to allow a minority (40%) to kill a citizen-initiated law that is approved by 60% of the ballots cast. Based on past experience, initiatives very rarely pass with more than 60%, so passing Amendment B would effectively wipe out our own constitutional right to make laws. www.deseret.com/opinion/2026/10/15/why-im-voting-no-on-amendment-b/
Amendment B raises important questions about civic participation and the ability of Utah citizens and communities to advance policy solutions through the citizen-initiative process. The passage of this amendment to the Constitution would have a greater and longer impact on our rights than the election of any government official on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Vote against Amendment B.
