The Park City Police Department stopped drivers suspected of speeding in a series of recent traffic stops, including cases well above the posted limits and in at least two locations that are not inside the municipal boundaries. Speeding has long been one of Parkites’ traffic-related complaints . The Police Department and the wider municipal government have responded to the concerns with a wide range of enforcement actions and measures meant to reduce speeds, including posting digital speed trailers that show the vehicle speeds as they pass.  The recent traffic stops did not appear to be part of a special operation targeting speeding, but they also highlight that officers encounter suspected speeders during regular patrols. Some of the cases involved speeds faster than 20 mph over the posted limit. There were also cases on interstate highways well outside the Park City limits. Public police logs generally did not provide details about whether a driver received a ticket or a warning. Officers are believed to write warnings in many cases unless the driver is a repeat offender or the suspected violation is deemed to be egregious. Some of the recent cases included: At a little bit before 9 a.m. on Oct. 24, an officer pulled over a driver on S.R. 248, indicating the vehicle was traveling at 58 mph in a location where the posted speed limit is 35 mph. At 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 24, an officer stopped a driver on S.R. 224 just north of the McPolin Farm at 65 mph, where the posted speed limit is 45 mph. At 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 23, an officer stopped a driver eastbound on S.R. 248 at 75 mph. The posted speed limit in the area of the reported location of the stop is 45 mph.  At 3:26 a.m. on Oct. 23, a traffic stop was logged on S.R. 224 at 63 mph in a location where the posted limit is 45 mph. An officer, meanwhile, pulled over a driver on eastbound Interstate 80 at a little bit after 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 25, indicating the vehicle was traveling at 82 mph in a location where the posted speed limit is 70 mph. The interstate is well outside the Park City limits. In another case outside the Park City limits, on Oct. 22 at 4:56 p.m., an officer stopped a driver westbound on Interstate 84. The driver was apparently traveling 89 mph in a location where the posted speed limit is 70 mph. The police said the driver also was seen improperly passing another vehicle. The Police Department also received a complaint about a driver traveling at a slow rate of speed. The report was logged at a little bit after 9 a.m. on Oct. 19, apparently on Kearns Boulevard in the area of Round Valley Drive. The police were told an inbound vehicle was traveling at approximately 15 mph. The vehicle was “causing a traffic jam,” according to public police logs. The post Park City speeding cases include stops outside the municipal boundaries appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
