Shane Steichen shares why Daniel Jones will remain Colts starting quarterback
Oct 26, 2026
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Shane Steichen confirmed on Monday that Daniel Jones is still the team’s starting quarterback.
Jones threw for just 108 yards in the loss to the Vikings on Sunday and had an interception in the Colts’ final drive of the game, as they were looking to take the lead.
Jones was also sacked four times for a loss of 44 yards.
“We got to be able to throw the ball better, for sure,” Steichen said. “Going into that game, we wanted to run the football. But you got to be able to throw to score points in this league. We got to do a great job as coaches putting a great plan together for him so he can go out and be successful this week.”
Steichen shared what he thinks Jones has been doing well this season.
“I think he’s doing a great job of leading the offense,” Steichen said. “The command, the leadership that he has, the way he works is second to none. Like I said, I got confidence in Daniel. He’s proven that he can do it. We’ve all seen it. We got to go do it though. He knows he’s got to play better moving forward, and he’ll tell you that himself. But I haven’t lost that confidence in him because of the preparation he puts in. The guys see it every day in the locker room on how he goes about his business. Like I said, we got faith and confidence in him moving forward.”
Jones has completed 59.6% of his passes this season for 1,398 yards and four touchdowns. He has thrown seven interceptions and has lost three fumbles.
Jones and the Colts will look to snap their three-game losing streak on Sunday as they play the Jaguars in Jacksonville. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
