The “hair curler” lives on. The round hotel on Hillsborough Street, a long time Holiday Inn, is now up and running as a Hotel Indigo. What originally started as a demolition and complete rebuild project has turned into a renovation. I know people have opinions on this one but I’m a fan of the building and am so glad to see this restored and renovated. It’s a more unique offering in the growing list of hotels that we have in downtown. The company that owns the property also owns the gravel parking lot next door. Now that this one is complete, I do hope that they are working on plans to take that surface parking lot away for some new development. I always love more city growing out of parking. Hotels will be a key topic to discuss soon as the Raleigh Convention Center expansion gets started most likely in 2027. The blog has over 19 years of content and is still going strong.
