USPS celebrates Hindu festival of Diwali with commemorative stamp
Oct 25, 2026
On Wednesday, the U.S. Postal Service issued a stamp to celebrate Diwali, also known as Deepavali.
Diwali is a joyous festival observed over five days. The autumn festival marks the triumph of good over evil. It is celebrated on the new moon that occurs between mid-October and mid-November. In 2
026, the festival will be observed on Nov. 8.
The stamp features a Bijay Dixit’s photograph of a rangoli made by Sangita Bhutada, a vibrant floor pattern traditionally made from materials like colored rice powder, chalk and flower petals. Rangolis are placed in and around homes to bring good fortune during Diwali.
Jennifer Arnold designed the stamp, and William J. Gicker served as the project’s art director.
The Diwali stamp will be issued as a Forever stamp and will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.
