Mother of cold case victim calls for justice on 5 year anniversary of son’s killing
Oct 24, 2026
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Five years after the death of 24-year-old Dylan Poonsammy, his family is still looking for answers.
Each year on Oct. 24, Dylan's mother, Sherry Poonsammy, visits 404 Rivertowne Apartments where her son was killed. She decorates the parking lot with balloons, candles and pi
ctures of Dylan.
“It seems like it was just yesterday," Poonsammy said. “I want people to remember Dylan and smile when they hear his name. He was a good, kindhearted soul.”
According to the Richmond Police Department, Dylan was shot in the back multiple times on Oct. 24, 2021, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrested and charged a man with conspiracy to commit murder, but he was released due to lack of information.
“I just want justice to be served. Year after year I come here to keep my son’s memory alive. I live with this pain every day," Poonsammy said.
Last year, the case was transferred to the cold case unit. Detective Michael Goldman said the person who was originally arrested is still a focus of the investigation.
“We’re still looking for that one little bit of information that will help us identify and hold the people accountable for Dylan’s death," Goldman explained.
Poonsammy is urging the public to come forward with any information that may help ease her family's pain.
“I love him, and I miss him very, very much. I think about him every day, and I try to keep his memory alive as long as I live. I will keep his memory alive," Poonsammy said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jeffrey Crewell at 804-646-5324 or email [email protected].
