I have known Malena Stevens for many years and have witnessed her devotion to serving our community in numerous thankless positions. She has already proved that she is eminently qualified by running the Summit County Clerk’s Office at a high level of performance. On the other hand, her opponen t is the handpicked candidate from the party that supports the person who fomented, in Tom Clyde’s words, our most recent “day that will live in infamy,” Jan. 6, 2021. We all witnessed the attack on Congress that day, as well as the pardoning of 1,200 convicted rioters and insurrectionists. The president would like to reward these felons with our taxpayer money. I have not heard one local Republican leader disavow the president or his pardons and attempted payoffs. It would be dangerous to put an individual backed by that party in control of our local election processes.
