At least four people were injured in a fire at a residential building in the Bronx on Friday, according to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
The fire broke out around 12:40 p.m. at 3408 Wright Avenue, near Tillotson Avenue, in the Bronx’s Baychester neighborhood.
“I’m in shock be
cause I lost everything I had in the house,” said Milfred Núñez, a resident affected by the fire. “The fire spread too fast, and when I went outside, the balcony door exploded.”
Núñez and her four young children will spend the night in a hotel as a result. The fire started on the third floor of the building.
“In less than ten or fifteen minutes, the fire spread, and that’s why the firefighters had to break through,” resident Raúl Pazmino told our sister station Telemundo 47.
Two people suffered serious injuries and two others sustained minor injuries, according to the FDNY.
Nearly 200 emergency personnel responded to the scene to assist the affected residents.
Red Cross personnel were on scene providing assistance to those affected by the fire.
The cause remains under investigation.
