Trump Staffer Gets Booed Into the Spotlight as NBA Fans Turn Her Date Night Into a Nightmare
Oct 23, 2026
A night out in Washington, D.C., turned chaotic at an NBA game, and the drama had nothing to do with basketball.
One of President Donald Trump’s staffers — a face sports fans may recognize — is at the center of a viral showdown.
The scene escalated as the entire section rose to watch t
he confrontation as phones captured the woman’s public outburst.

The woman at the center of it all is Britt McHenry. The 40-year-old former ESPN reporter who now works as a press adviser at the U.S. State Department.
McHenry drew boos at the Washington Wizards’ home opener after a confrontation in the stands.

TMZ obtained video footage of McHenry’s heated confrontation during the Washington Wizards’ home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks at Capital One Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The footage shows the argument boil over in her row, and then McHenry flinging a drink at a fellow fan.
As McHenry and a male companion climbed out of their seats, boos rang through the section. Fans began hurling rally towels her way.
Instead of slipping out quietly, she waved and blew kisses at the jeering crowd, recording her walkout.
Earlier footage shows an elderly Black woman with gray hair calling for security on her phone.
McHenry later argued loudly with a security guard who directed her to leave the building. But her camp is telling a very different story.
According to Page Six, she and her friend sat in front of a rowdy group of men trashing Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma, a former Wizard, and his fiancée, model Winnie Harlow. A source told the outlet the hecklers claimed Kuzma “plays terribly because his girlfriend’s ugly.”
McHenry allegedly turned around and told them to tone it down, which only shifted their attention to her.
The source claimed one man hurled misogynistic insults and threw a drink on her first, prompting her to retaliate. According to that source, arena staff escorted both McHenry and the male partner out.
People close to McHenry also told TMZ she was never kicked out. They insist she left on her own to head to the bar while her guest stayed for the rest of the game. But as Awful Announcing pointed out, the video shows her walking out alongside security.
The Wizards went on to win 128-116.
McHenry has not publicly addressed the video, and reps for her and the State Department declined to comment.
As of Friday morning, neither Trump nor the White House had said a word about that night.
Social media, however, had plenty to say. On X, one person wrote that McHenry had “Some real DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? energy going on there.”
Another joked, “She was just auditioning for the White House Press Secretary position.” It was a timely jab, considering Trump is still hunting for a new spokesperson after he fired Katie Zacharia less than a week into the job.
“The entitlement shows she’s definitely a Trumper,” a third person wrote, while someone else flagged the double standard: “Now imagine the consequences if you threw a drink at a Trump staffer. They’d bury you under the prison.”
One user predicted exactly how the president would spin it: “Trump tomorrow: ‘She is a great person and she’s being treated very unfairly!’”
Plenty of viewers also had flashbacks. In April 2015, ESPN suspended McHenry for a week after surveillance footage showed her berating a towing company employee in Arlington, Virginia. McHenry mocked the woman’s looks, weight and education.
“Lose some weight, baby girl,” she said as she walked out in the viral clip.
McHenry apologized at the time. Years later, she insisted the video had been “highly edited.” Still, ESPN let her go in 2017. She later landed at Fox Nation before announcing in September that she’d joined the State Department under Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The boos inside Capital One Arena would sound familiar to the crowd’s reaction to her boss.
Trump was jeered at a Commanders game in Landover, Maryland, last November while reading a military oath during a Salute to Service ceremony. Fans at the 2019 World Series in D.C. even chanted “Lock him up” at him.
In June, Trump’s NBA Finals appearance sparked Knicks fans’ fury over street closures and canceled watch parties.
Boos rang out when he appeared on the big screen. He later told reporters the crowd offered “mostly cheers,” then reposted a clip overnight that ended with protesters cursing him out.
For McHenry, whose job is managing the government’s image, Wednesday’s footage may be her toughest spin yet.
