Lululemon and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton have reached a deal to end the state’s investigation into what it called “potentially harmful chemicals” in the popular brand’s clothing. Paxton launched the investigation in April, citing concerns that some chemical compounds used in their products could be toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, more commonly known as PFAS. Lululemon is a Canadian-American activewear brand that generated over $11 billion in fiscal year 2025. In a statement, the company said the agreement “reiterates how the company already operates and does not represent a change to its products or practices.” Lululemon also detailed some of the review process, and said it provided Paxton’s office with requested documentation, third-party lab reports and that the state did not identify PFAS in its products or materials. Paxton’s office said the settlement means the company will be required to maintain “rigorous chemical safety standards and oversight of materials used in its products.” According to Paxton, emerging research and consumer concerns have raised questions about the potential presence of certain synthetic materials and chemical compounds in their apparel that may be associated with endocrine disruption, infertility, cancer, and other health issues. “I will not allow corporations to put the health and safety of Texans at risk by using potentially harmful chemicals in their clothing,” said Attorney General Paxton. “This agreement ensures that Lululemon remains accountable for enforcing its chemical safety standards and provides additional protections for Texans against potentially harmful chemicals.” “The health and safety of lululemon guests is the company’s top priority, and lululemon is confident in the standards and processes it has in place,” said the Lululemon statement. ...read more read less
