(KRON) -- A major system outage left Oakland police dispatchers without working phone lines or internet service, prompting the city to reroute emergency calls to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. The disruption affected both emergency and non-emergency phone lines across the Police Department. The outage began shortly after 8:30 p.m. when dispatchers noticed their computer system had frozen. By 9:45 p.m., all 9-1-1 calls were being transferred to the sheriff's office and Oakland police dispatchers were relocated to the city's fire dispatch center and the sheriff's dispatch center. Dolly Parton’s sister claims Tennessee voting machine changed her vote to Republican Fire and medical dispatch services were not impacted by the disruption and remained operational. Oakland Police Department Chief James Beer provided an update on the situation in a video posted to the department's Facebook page. “The county is currently answering 911 calls and relaying information to the Oakland Police Department dispatchers stationed at the fire department. We are responding only to priority one calls,” Beer said. Priority one calls include severe emergencies requiring an immediate police response. The outage also impacted the city's 3-1-1 service. City officials instructed residents to continue calling 9-1-1 for emergencies, while non-emergency infrastructure issues should be reported by email to [email protected]. The city's IT department is working alongside ATT to restore phone and internet services. Officials have not established an estimated time for service restoration.
