SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) -- A section of Highway 37 that runs along the San Pablo Bay will be completely closed over the weekend, with overnight westbound closures beginning Thursday night. Caltrans previously planned to begin closures Wednesday night. However, the schedule was changed due to " potential weather conditions," Caltrans said. The work being done between Mare Island in Vallejo and Sears Point in Sonoma County aims to prepare for heavy rains and El Niño conditions. Select portions of Highway 37 will be raised by 3 feet, according to Caltrans, “to improve resiliency and address flooding concerns along this vital transportation corridor.” Caltrans will close the westbound direction of the work area Thursday night at 7 p.m., reopening the roadway at 4 a.m. Friday. On Friday night, both eastbound and westbound directions will shut down at 10 p.m. and remain closed until 5 a.m. on Monday. (Caltrans) (Caltrans) Approximately 40,000 cars pass through Highway 37 each day. ...read more read less
