Chief Deputy Sheriff Ben Houchin told repor
ters that Lincoln Fire and Rescue was called around 8:45am to the second floor of the Hall of Justice at 10th and Lincoln Mall, shortly after a judge revoked the man’s bond and he was going back to jail. According to Houchin, after the man heard the new bond amount, he pulled out a piece of glass from his pocket and cut his neck.
LFR took the man to the hospital and he was being treated for non life-threatening injuries, which required stitches before being taken back to jail.
“This is the first time a kind of an edge weapon has gotten through, but again, it is a piece of glass, and so that’s a little bit different than what our equipment up there is looking for,” Houchin said. “Thankfully, he’s going to be OK.”
Which courtroom and the man’s age were not disclosed by Houchin.
