Shows up, works hard
Oct 21, 2026
When I ran for Summit County Council earlier this year, Malena Stevens gave me a piece of advice that stuck with me. She told me that the candidate who works the hardest is the one who wins.
I took that advice seriously, and I’ve come to appreciate that Malena practices what she preaches. She
works hard, she shows up, and she has devoted years of her life to public service.
We all have opinions about what happens in Summit County, but if we care about our community, we need to be willing to get involved. Some people contribute financially, some volunteer their time, and some participate by simply showing up and voting. All of those things matter. But running for public office requires a particularly significant commitment of time, energy, and personal sacrifice. It’s not easy to put yourself out there, make difficult decisions, and face criticism, but our community needs people willing to do it.
Malena has made that commitment for years, and I respect her for it.
During this year’s primary election, I also experienced Malena’s work as county clerk from a candidate’s perspective. She kept candidates informed about the vote-counting process and when we could expect results. I appreciated that communication and her attention to a process that matters to every voter in Summit County.
The Clerk’s Office requires fairness, accuracy and a commitment to serving everyone, regardless of political affiliation. Malena brings years of local government experience, a strong work ethic, and a genuine dedication to our community.
I believe Malena will continue to serve Summit County well as county clerk, and I am pleased to support her.
