ELKHART, Ind. — A Mishawaka man is facing charges after police say he pointed a gun in his girlfriend’s face and fired shots towards her child’s father last week in Elkhart.
On Friday, Oct. 16, at 9:59 a.m., Elkhart police received a call reporting a domestic disturbance involving a pos
sibly armed individual who had threatened to shoot the caller at a residence in the 800 block of Fremont Street.
Investigators said the caller, 18-year-old Efren Oregon Jr.’s girlfriend, reported that Oregon pushed her onto furniture, hurting her. Oregon is accused of ordering her to call the father of her child, asking him to come to the home so Oregon could shoot and kill him, according to investigators.
When she refused, Oregon pointed a gun at her and told her to call the man again. After she complied, investigators said Oregon told her to call the man back and tell him that he left the home.
Investigators said she called her child’s father back, warning him not to come to the home, but he came anyway.
When officers arrived on scene, they heard multiple gunshots from the upstairs window, striking a Dodge Charger on the roadway outside the home, which was occupied by her child’s father. He was uninjured.
Oregon was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail that evening. He is now facing the following charges:
Attempted aggravated battery, a mid-level felony.
Intimidation, a low-level felony.
Domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16 years old is a low-level felony.
An Elkhart County judicial officer ordered Mr. Oregon to be held without bond until his hearing on Thursday.
